What to expect at a cafe
Coffee shops and cafes run from drive-through espresso stands and national chains to independent roasters and neighborhood cafes with pastries, light breakfast and lunch. Many double as workspaces with Wi-Fi and outlets, while others focus on quick takeaway service.
What to order
- Drip coffee or a pour-over – the best way to taste a roaster’s beans
- Latte or cappuccino – the most ordered espresso drinks
- Cold brew – smoother and stronger, especially popular in summer
- A pastry or breakfast sandwich – many cafes bake in house
Good to know
- Mobile ordering skips the morning line at chains and many independents.
- Plant-based milks and extra shots usually add a small charge.
- Some cafes limit laptop use at busy times – look for posted policies.
